A whistful afternoon

By

I worked Friday, got off at about 8PM, and stopped at a local haunt for tomato soup and a grilled cheese. Easily the best tomato soup I’ve ever had.

Now, the schedule gets weird and I start night shift (7p – 7a) tomorrow night. I have on day/evening off to get my life together for nightshift. I ordered myself a light blocking eye mask that also has little lay-flat speakers in the ears and can connect via Bluetooth for a white noise.

The weather calls for a large percent chance of snow in the evening, and I’m still fairly new to the whole “snow driving” thing, so I cancelled on going over to Philadelphia (until another day!) and decided to find something local. I debated a history museum or something this morning, but never could specifically decide. I needed some toiletries, so I knew a target run was in order.. so I found something “on the way” to target, I give you, the best afternoon I’ve had in a while.

Cassel Vineyards of Hershey. I spent an afternoon on their patio with a gorgeous fire, overlooking wintery winery land. I had a tasting and a glass of mulled wine. Ended up leaving with a bottle of port for the road – raspberry chocolate. It tastes a bit like a wine-y version of a raisinet.

On the way home, it started to snow. More flakes than the stars visible in the sky. And the flakes were huge. For now, it is just melting (temp is about 36), but I do believe it will stick overnight. I grabbed my target pickup and dinner, and headed back to my cozy apartment.

I washed dishes and have done a few loads of laundry, all I really needed to accomplish tonight. I’m trying to figure out the best strategy for the nightshift flip: sleep as late as I can tomorrow and take a good afternoon nap? Stay up for a while tonight and see what happens?

I’m watching a K-Drama, A Tale of Nine-Tails, and will see how long that carries me into the evening.. but I will tell you that this heated blanket is making the “staying up thing” quite difficult. I am so cozy. Gotta at least finish my load of scrubs tonight.

This week is my first on nightshift, and I’ve got three: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. There’s a chance I’ll try to nap and go to Philly Thursday afternoon, but we’ll see how tired I am. Maybe Friday. Goal is to have “down south” Christmas done and shipped out Saturday morning. Let’s see how it goes.

Have a great evening,

K., RN
